Get Involved

The easiest and most important way to get involved is to take a child outdoors today.

Be Informed!
Visit our website and be on our GKO email distribution list.
Be a Voice!
Help us spread the word about the benefits to children of outdoor play and interaction with nature by talking up GKO.
Be a Volunteer!
Help with special events and projects. Serve on a working committee.

Special Events & Projects
We need your help – there are many ways to volunteer with varying time commitments.
Some examples:

  • Host the GKO booth at community events (Festival by the Bay, Home Show)
  • Lead a family nature hike
  • Hang posters or deliver marketing materials to distribution sites
  • Build a float for 4th of July parades

Marketing Committee
Help get the word out with marketing materials, advertising and public relations.

Focus Question: What barriers do some families face to getting their kids outdoors? How do we reach these families?

Growth Committee
Help recruit GKO Voices and Coalition Partners.

Secure grant funding and/or donations for small operating budget.

Focus Question: Who do we best reach outlying areas of Emmet County beyond Petoskey and Harbor Springs?

Programming Committee
Schedule presentations to community groups and workshops for parents or educators.

Plan tie-ins to community events (e.g., Festival by the Bay, NCMC Cookout)

Plan collaborative events with GKO and coalition partners

Focus Question: Who are the target groups for pilot programs (e.g., middle school students who no longer have recess)? How do we connect people with resources that enable them to get outdoors on their own (e.g., Family Nature Clubs)

Be a Partner!
Be a part of this community-wide effort as an organization, businesses or agency.
Coalition partners are actively involved in supporting the GKO mission as:

  • Distribution Sites
  • Opportunity Providers
  • Collaborators

Coalition partners will be featured on GKO website and marketing materials. Click here for more info about being a GKO coalition partner.
