"Go Outside and Play” Prescription Pads

Local healthcare providers will participate in a “Get Outdoors” campaign in their offices by displaying GKO materials – offering to parents/caregivers readily usable information. At well baby checkups and annual physicals, doctors will recommend regular outdoor play and contact with nature as integral to healthy childhood development using the “Go Outside and Play” prescription pads.

Exploring your backyard or the many trails, lakes and wetlands in Emmet County is a great way to spend time with your child. Discover together and enjoy the simple wonders when you go outside to play. Story hour will be focused on this topic as well. Usable info, inspiration and hands-on activities for the kids.

Special Event: Saturday, June 27th, 2009 The event was held at Pennsylvania Park in downtown Petoskey. Getting Kids Outdoors was also at the event, providing information and activities to passers-by. Lots of great activities from Bear Cub Outfitters and Emmet County Recycling were offered to help kids win a chance at a free new pair of Keen shoes. Lots of fun was had by all in the great weather! Bear Cub Outfitters is a partner of GKO, and is located in downtown Petoskey.
